Punyatma Prabhakar Sharma Seva Mandal was founded by Pujya Rukmabai Tallur as a homage to her brother, who devoted his life in social reformation of the underprivileged in villages and tribal areas in Maharashtra, India.

Punyatma Prabhakar Sharma was one of the humble souls to have responded to the call of Mahatma Gandhi. At a tender age of 19, he joined the 'Swaraj' movement and 'Satyagraha' movement to free India from the foreign yoke.

Post independence, under the guidance of his mentor Pujya Bapuji, he took up the cause of reforming the lives of the poor and oppressed villagers in remote rural areas . He showed them the way of living life with self-respect by introducing the power of literacy and the importance of being self-sufficient through rural based self-employment.
